A Baptist missionary who lived on the Congo from 1881 describes the Boloki people of Monsembe in close detail: their crafts and trade, family law and inheritance, mythology, witchcraft and ordeals, and the language he struggled to learn. The lurid title and its talk of savagery belong to a European missionary of 1913, but the notes are full and observant.
A valuable early ethnographic record of Congo life, to be read with its colonial outlook in mind. Download the free EPUB.
