The son of a thieving barber and a woman of dubious reputation, Pablos sets out to be a gentleman. He serves the young Don Diego Coronel at a starvation boarding school and at the University of Alcalá, learns every trick of the student underworld, and moves through Madrid’s beggars, cheats and actors, always one swindle ahead of disaster.
A classic of Spanish Golden Age satire, with Daniel Vierge’s famous drawings and an essay on the picaresque. Download the free EPUB.
