In a lonely castle on the Irish coast, the proud Lord Glencore broods over a wrong done to him and raises his son Harry in isolation, with the strange poet, pedlar and physician Billy Traynor as tutor. A visit from an old friend and a great diplomatist carries the story to the courts and intrigues of Italy, where the boy’s fate is played out.
