Amos Lawrence, born in Groton in 1786, came to Boston as a clerk, built one of the great mercantile houses of New England and gave much of his fortune away. His son assembled this record from his diary and his letters to his children: business habits and resolutions, family losses, illness, and a steady stream of advice on character and duty.
A portrait of the Boston merchant class in its own words, for readers of American business and social history. Download the free EPUB.
