Philo Gubb, tall, gaunt and simple-hearted, hangs wallpaper for a living and studies the lessons of the Rising Sun Detective Agency’s correspondence course in his spare time. In these linked stories he dons absurd disguises and blunders through cases involving a hard-boiled egg, an oubliette, a two-cent stamp and a dragon’s eye, often solving them by accident.
