Davidson retells the plots of the great operas as stories to be read for their own sake. The collection runs from Fra Diavolo and The Bohemian Girl through Fidelio, La Sonnambula, I Puritani, Carmen and Lucrezia Borgia to Madama Butterfly, following the characters from first scene to last.
