Fort Robinson grew from a camp beside the Red Cloud Agency, where in 1873 some thirteen thousand Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho drew their treaty rations. This history follows the post through the Sioux expedition, the surrender of the hostile bands, Crazy Horse’s death there, and the garrison life of officers, soldiers and the ladies of the post.
