Fannie Beers nursed wounded soldiers in Confederate hospitals across the South, and in 1888 she published her recollections at the urging of veterans. She describes improvised wards, surgeons and orderlies, shelling as she travelled by train, the deaths she witnessed, and the women who kept hospitals running on almost nothing.
A vivid document of wartime nursing, written from an openly Confederate loyalty that colours its view of the war’s cause. Download the free EPUB.
