A Wilmington merchant and historian of the Cape Fear River gathers accounts of ships left drifting and lost in ordinary commercial traffic, then turns to the Confederate blockade runners that ran the Federal cordon off North Carolina between 1861 and 1865. Chases like that of the Lilian, ruses by engineers and pilots, and the wrecks still lying on the coast fill the second half.
Maritime lore from a writer who knew the Cape Fear coast intimately, for readers of naval and Civil War history. Download the free EPUB.
