Dickert enlisted as a teenager in one of the South Carolina regiments that formed Kershaw’s Brigade, and he tells its story from secession and enrollment through First Manassas, winter quarters at Bull Run and the long campaigns that followed, adding company rolls, biographical sketches of officers and camp anecdotes. Nearly all copies of the original privately printed edition were soon destroyed by water.
A valuable soldier’s-eye source on Confederate service, written from within the Lost Cause sympathies of its veterans’ generation. Download the free EPUB.
