Drawing on Xenophon’s Anabasis, Carl Witt retells the story of the Greek mercenaries hired by Cyrus the Younger to seize the Persian throne from his brother. After Cyrus falls in battle, the stranded Greeks, betrayed by Tissaphernes, must march through mountains and hostile lands to the Black Sea. Witt first explains the Great King, the Persian Empire and the Greek world.
A clear, exciting retelling for young readers and anyone new to Xenophon. Download the free EPUB.
