Tattine is seven and finds that the world contains a great many things that seem wrong and that no one can put right. Over a few chapters she meets her troubles one by one, enjoys a maple-wax morning, welcomes a litter of setter puppies, visits the Kirks, and learns that animals must sometimes follow their own natures.
