Beginning with a tourney at Fronsac in the year 769, this playful romance follows Charlemagne, his paladins and the treacherous Ganelon through sieges, battles and enchantments, and into the realm of Croquemitaine, the bogeyman of French nurseries. Tom Hood’s translation keeps the tongue-in-cheek legendary tone and the gentle moral of the original.
A whimsical pastiche of medieval romance, famous for Gustave Doré’s illustrations. Download the free EPUB.
