A bashful man, fleeing a disappointment in love, is snowed up at the Holly-Tree Inn on the Yorkshire moors and passes the days recalling every inn he has known. The Boots then tells him the story of two small children who ran away together to be married at Gretna Green, and the narrator settles his bill.
One of Dickens’s Christmas stories, comic and tender, just right for a winter evening. Download the free EPUB.
