Reid, a Yorkshire journalist, set out to supplement Mrs. Gaskell’s life of Charlotte Brontë with fresh material, chiefly her letters to Ellen Nussey. He follows her from Haworth through Brussels to the success of Jane Eyre, and draws out her humour and everyday life as well as her sorrows.
An important early Brontë biography, valued for the letters it quotes, for anyone interested in the family at Haworth. Download the free EPUB.
