The children’s librarian Frances Jenkins Olcott chose seventy-seven ballads and narrative poems for boys and girls of twelve to fifteen. Sir Patrick Spens, the Daemon Lover, mermaids, Lord Lovel, border reivers and kings in disguise appear alongside later poems by Campbell and others, with notes on how ballads grew.
A fine family anthology of verse that begs to be read aloud. Download the free EPUB.
