Newly married, short of money and recovering his health, Stevenson set up house with his wife and stepson in the derelict bunkhouse of the Silverado mine above the Napa Valley. He writes of Calistoga, the petrified forest, early Napa wine, the sea fogs rolling over the ridges, and the hunters, toll-keepers and drifters who were their neighbours.
A short, sunlit piece of Stevenson’s travel writing and an early portrait of California wine country. Download the free EPUB.
