Lady Forester, neglected by her wayward husband Sir Philip, who has gone to the wars on the Continent, hears no news of him for months. In Edinburgh she and her sister consult a foreign doctor said to have uncanny powers, and in his great mirror they see scenes from far away. Scott frames the tale as a story told by an old aunt.
An elegant supernatural tale from Scott, written for The Keepsake annual of 1829. Download the free EPUB.
