Harry Norman and Alaric Tudor work in the respectable Weights and Measures office, while Alaric’s cousin Charley idles in the shabby Internal Navigation. All three fall for the Woodward sisters of Hampton, and the new system of competitive examinations, City speculation and Charley’s debts test their characters in very different ways.
Trollope drew on his own Post Office years for this warm, funny novel of the Victorian civil service. Download the free EPUB.
