A painter living on the top floor of a Washington Square house becomes fascinated by the singer next door in Coming, Aphrodite!, and the stories that follow trace opera stars, their managers and the families who live off them. The last four come from Cather’s first collection, including “Paul’s Case”, about a Pittsburgh boy who flees to New York, and “The Sculptor’s Funeral”.
Cather’s finest short fiction on art and ambition, collected in 1920 for readers of The Song of the Lark. Download the free EPUB.
