Pericles solves a king’s riddle at Antioch, uncovers a terrible secret, and flees into years of wandering across the eastern Mediterranean, from Tarsus to Pentapolis to Ephesus. Storms take his wife Thaisa and part him from his daughter Marina, who grows up among strangers and brothel-keepers, while the poet John Gower steps forward as chorus to tell the tale.
One of the late romances, rough in places but holding some of Shakespeare’s most moving scenes of recognition. Download the free EPUB.
