Stolen as a baby from the town of Utterhay, Birdalone grows up as the drudge of a witch in a house beside a great forest lake. With help from a kindly wood-woman she escapes in a magic boat and drifts from one strange island to another, until she reaches the Castle of the Quest and the knights and ladies whose fates become bound to hers.
One of Morris’s late prose romances, written in rich archaic English and a forerunner of modern fantasy. Download the free EPUB.
