Grettir Asmundarson is a difficult child and a formidable young man, killer of berserks, a barrow-wight and the undead herdsman Glam, whose curse leaves him afraid of the dark. Outlawed for a killing he did not commit, he survives nearly twenty years in Iceland’s wilderness, taking food from farms and finally holding out on the island of Drangey.
