Lanier took Lady Charlotte Guest’s translation of the Welsh Mabinogion and shaped it for boys, keeping the strangeness of the old stories: the Lady of the Fountain, Kilhwch’s quest for Olwen and the hunt of the boar Twrch Trwyth, Peredur’s adventures, the Dream of Rhonabwy, Pwyll Prince of Dyved and the tale of Lludd and Llevelys.
