On the Pantai river in Borneo, the Dutch trader Almayer waits for the fortune that will take him and his daughter Nina to Europe. His trading post is failing, his Malay wife despises him, and his hopes rest on a hidden gold mine and the young Balinese prince Dain Maroola, while local rajahs and Arab traders scheme around them.
Conrad’s first novel, published in 1895, already full of the moral darkness and tropical atmosphere of his later work. Download the free EPUB.
