Addressing her account to Theodore Roosevelt, who supplies the introduction, the novelist Mrs. Humphry Ward visited the front, hospitals and munitions works and wrote these letters to show Americans what Britain was achieving in the war. She describes soldiers, nurses, workers and wounded officers, in prose meant to persuade as much as report.
A revealing piece of wartime advocacy from one of the best-known novelists of her day. Download the free EPUB.
