Francis Duffy, chaplain to the 165th Infantry, the old 69th New York, records his regiment’s war from home training to the Army of Occupation. He follows it through the Lunéville and Baccarat sectors, the Champagne defensive, the costly Battle of the Ourcq, St. Mihiel and the Argonne, naming the soldiers who fought. A historical appendix by the poet Joyce Kilmer is included.
A humane, closely observed account of the American infantry war by the priest whose statue stands in Times Square. Download the free EPUB.
