A British soldier with a draughtsman’s eye records his war from the troopship out of Southampton, by way of Malta and Marseilles, to the trenches around Armentières. His sketches were drawn on the spot, sometimes with the rifle laid aside for a moment, and his notes describe attacks, roll calls with many absentees, and the strain of holding the line.
An honest, first-hand pictorial record of the First World War, unvarnished by studio embellishment. Download the free EPUB.
