Drawing on years as president of Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Kohler offers what he calls a pioneer work: a systematic and historical theology of Judaism. He asks what Judaism is and what its articles of faith are, then treats God as known to man and in relation to the world, the dual nature of man, the soul, free will and moral responsibility, and the mission of Israel.
