Published after Hearn’s death, this last collection opens with the old Japanese legend of the Weaving Maiden and the Herdsman, separated by the River of Heaven. It goes on to comic verse about goblins, the ghostly stories of the Mirror Maiden and Itō Norisuké, a meditation on final questions, and a letter from Japan.
Hearn’s delicate retellings remain a favourite way into Japanese folklore. Download the free EPUB.
