Four legends retold by the Belgian author of Till Eulenspiegel: the Brotherhood of the Cheerful Countenance, the Three Sisters, the murderous knight Sir Halewyn who sings maidens to their deaths, and Smetse Smee, the smith who bargains with the Devil. The Flemish old-time setting is rich with feasting, piety and grotesque humour.
Earthy, vivid folk fiction from Belgium’s national storyteller, translated by Harold Taylor. Download the free EPUB.
