Fifteen tales retold for young English-speaking readers, beginning with the poor Widow Wang, her son and the golden beetle that explains why dogs and cats are enemies. Others tell of the casting of the Great Bell, a dog who becomes a famous doctor, a talking fish, and a mad goose in the tiger forest, with illustrations by Li Chu-T’ang.
