George Augustus Frederick, Duke of St. James, comes of age as one of the richest men in Europe, with estates across England, a province in Ireland and a train of flatterers. He throws himself into extravagant parties, gambling and affairs among London’s fashionable set, until his feelings for the principled May Dacre and the question of Catholic emancipation force him to think about what he owes.
