In the cathedral city of Helstonleigh, the Channing family struggle with a father crippled by illness and a fortune tied up in a lawsuit. A schoolboy prank leaves a chorister’s surplice ruined with ink, and when a bank-note vanishes from an office, suspicion falls on one of the Channing sons, while the reckless Roland Yorke and his mother Lady Augusta look on.
A warm Victorian family novel of cathedral boys, honour and patience, by the author of East Lynne. Download the free EPUB.
