In the English market town of Glaston, Paul Faber is the most skilful and generous doctor anyone remembers, and a convinced unbeliever. His marriage to the beautiful, guarded Juliet Meredith sets talk going in the town, while the curate Thomas Wingfold, returning from an earlier MacDonald novel, wrestles with the questions of faith that Faber dismisses.
A serious Victorian novel of doubt, conscience and forgiveness, among MacDonald’s strongest for adult readers. Download the free EPUB.
