Gaffer Hexam and his daughter Lizzie row the Thames by night looking for bodies, and the one they find is said to be John Harmon, heir to a fortune made from mountains of London dust. The money passes to the kindly Boffins, and with it comes a crowd of schemers: the mercenary Bella Wilfer, the one-legged ballad-seller Silas Wegg and the fortune-hunting Lammles.
The last novel Dickens completed, and his most savage portrait of money and class in Victorian London. Download the free EPUB.
