On the heather of an Aberdeenshire hillside, Kirsty Barclay knits while young Francis Gordon, son of a dead colonel, boasts of the soldier he will become. As they grow up, Francis proves weak and selfish while Kirsty grows in strength and goodness, and her gentle, simple brother Steenie and her steady old father become the moral centre of the story.
A late novel of Scottish country life, full of MacDonald’s tender Christian vision. Download the free EPUB.
