Martin Johnson first saw the New Hebrides from the deck of Jack London’s Snark. Years later he went back with a camera, travelling by way of Sydney and New Caledonia to Malekula to film the chief Nagapate and his people, and even screened films of New York and Tokyo for them on the island.
