Karl Philipp Moritz, a young Prussian clergyman and writer, travelled through England in 1782 largely on foot, which most English people of the day thought eccentric or suspicious. In letters to a friend he records London, Parliament, Vauxhall and the theatre, roadside inns that turned him away, Windsor, Oxford and the Peak, and compares English liberty with the military system of Berlin.
A delightful, candid outsider’s view of Georgian England, prized by historians and travellers. Download the free EPUB.
