Kept in the form of a daily journal, this narrative follows Edmund Chishull, chaplain to the English merchants at Smyrna, on his excursions in Asia Minor and then on the long overland journey home through Adrianople, the Balkans and Hungary. He notes ruins and inscriptions, Turkish customs, Tokay wine and long-horned Hungarian sheep, and the book was published posthumously with a preface by Richard Mead.
