Ármin Vámbéry crossed Central Asia in 1863 disguised as a Sunni dervish, and here adds to his earlier Travels in Central Asia the details critics said were missing. He recalls his dervish life and fellow pilgrims, caravans in the desert, the tent and its inhabitants, the court of Khiva, slavery and the peoples, customs and religion of the khanates.
Fascinating first-hand observation of a closed world, by one of the great adventurous scholars of the nineteenth century. Download the free EPUB.
