An Italian adventurer leaves the coastal towns of the Malay Peninsula, where he finds civilised men worse than any savages, to live among the Sakai, the Senoi forest peoples of Perak. He describes their hunting, travel, customs and independence, and the hard lesson that a Sakai guide must be allowed to go his own way or he will vanish into the forest.
A sympathetic but dated account; its title and vocabulary reflect the colonial attitudes of 1908. Download the free EPUB.
