Henry Walter Bellew, surgeon and political officer, travelled with a British mission from the Indus across Baluchistan, Seistan and Khorasan to the Tigris in the early 1870s. His narrative records the country, peoples, rulers and recent history of the frontier as Russian power advanced in Central Asia, and adds a study of the Brahui language. The viewpoint is that of an imperial officer of the day.
