A young Englishman sets out to walk the length of Africa, partly to prove himself to the family of the woman he hoped to marry. With Arthur Sharp for the first stage, he travels from the Cape through Rhodesia, the great lakes and the swamps of the Nile to Cairo, recording hunting, disease, hostile country and encounters with many peoples. His racial attitudes are those of 1900, and often offensive.

A famous feat of exploration and a frank document of imperial Africa, introduced by Cecil Rhodes. Download the free EPUB.
