Surgeon Jeans sets out to portray the habits and training of the Royal Navy’s young officers through the adventures of Midshipman Glover, from gunroom life to boat work and action. In Chinese waters the story turns to pirates, captured crews questioned in Captain Helston’s cabin with the help of Ping Sang, and Glover’s growing sense of responsibility.
A vivid 1908 picture of the navy of its day, with the period’s attitudes to the Chinese characters. Download the free EPUB.
