A young lady, abducted by a merchant who loves her, is swept by storm to the North Pole and passes into another world joined to ours there. Its bear-men, fox-men, bird-men and fly-men make her their empress, and she questions their natural philosophers, consults immaterial spirits, and calls up the soul of the Duchess of Newcastle herself to be her scribe.
First printed in 1666, it is one of the earliest works of proto-science fiction and a remarkable piece of seventeenth-century writing by a woman. Download the free EPUB.
