Haeckel gave this address to the International Congress of Zoology at Cambridge in 1898, surveying what was then known of human descent. He argues for the evolution of man from earlier primates and treats the newly found Java fossil, Pithecanthropus, as the missing link. Hans Gadow adds notes and short biographies of great naturalists such as Cuvier.
A landmark of popular evolutionary science; some of Haeckel’s views have long been superseded. Download the free EPUB.
