The Lexington and Frankfort stage brings a new schoolmaster, Mr. Wilmot, to a small Kentucky town and to the household of Mr. Middleton, father of two daughters as unlike as storm and sun. Proud, scheming Julia and sweet-natured Fanny are soon rivals, and a betrothal, a newly arrived doctor and voices too easily mistaken set the trouble going.
