Bunyan takes as his text Christ’s command that repentance and forgiveness be preached to all nations, “beginning at Jerusalem”, and asks why the gospel was offered first to the very city that killed him. His answer is that God’s mercy deliberately seeks out the worst of sinners, and he closes with a direct application urging his hearers not to despair.
