In 399 the monk Faxian set out from Ch’ang-gan because the Chinese collection of the Books of Discipline was incomplete. He crossed the sandy desert and the Himalaya, spent years in India copying texts, and came home by sea through Ceylon and a near shipwreck. His account is the earliest eyewitness record of Buddhist India.
A fifteen-year pilgrimage, told plainly by the man who made it. Download the free EPUB.
